Your Road to Recovery Starts Here
How It Works
What to expect when starting mental health or addiction therapy
There is a path waiting for you, and you do not have to do it alone. Our outpatient treatment program is flexible and caters to your needs, providing you with the custom guidance and support you need to recover. Harvard Therapy and Recovery is where breakdowns become breakthroughs and where rock bottom sprouts renewal. Are you ready to regain your life?
Initial Appointment
The first thing you will do will be to meet with your therapist to begin exploring what led you to seek counseling in the first place. This is an excellent opportunity to see how well you interact with your therapist and to lay the groundwork for the important work ahead. Your therapist may recommend additional sessions before moving forward to assessment to ensure that working together will produce the desired outcome.
Treatment Planning
After you and your therapist have completed the assessment, together you will identify the goals you want to accomplish while in services. This treatment plan will identify measurable objectives and services which will guide the remaining sessions to ensure you are getting what you want out of treatment. A number of services may be offered during this session including, individual or group therapy, family therapy, medication evaluation/management, and support services. The Treatment Plan can be reviewed or updated whenever you or your Therapist find it is not producing the desired effects.
Completion/Discharge
As you progress in treatment and begin achieving the goals you set out for yourself, you and your therapist will review your Treatment Plan to determine when you have made the progress you wanted to make. When you feel confident in moving forward without therapy, your therapist will complete a final session with you to complete treatment.
Assessment
Following your initial appointment with your therapist, your therapist will schedule a time to conduct an in-depth assessment to gain a better understanding of what you are wanting out of your time in treatment. You can also expect to complete a computer-based assessment before returning for this assessment. This assessment is very thorough and will help guide you and your therapist in developing a treatment plan. Your therapist will also use this information to identify a proper diagnosis for treatment and insurance purposes.
Therapy Sessions
Working with your therapist is a central component of all treatment plans. Psychotherapy is a dynamic interaction between you and your Therapist based on trust, confidentiality, and a joint focus on achieving your goals. At times, engaging in this work will be difficult and can bring up many memories and emotions, both positive and negative. Your therapist is prepared and will be able to help you navigate these emotions. Therapy sessions may also involve family members if you choose to include supportive family members in your treatment.
Follow-Up
Periodically during treatment and 30-60 days after completing services at Harvard Therapy and Recovery, we will contact you to invite you to provide feedback on the services you received. This contact may come as a telephone call or e-mail with a link to provide information. Your feedback is important to ensure the services you received meet your expectations and recovery goals.
